There are bad doctors in the world. Some problems that occur include: treating too often for too long, high-volume offices that do no soft-tissue, and offices that do x-rays on every single patient. However, D.C.'s have a great education, treatment works, and it's cost effective. M.D.'s and other doctors may not be fully educated about Chiropractic, therefore not recommending it.
There is a place for surgery and medication. If chiropractic can help people without being as invasive or expensive as surgery, without masking the symptoms or having the side effects of the medications, then why not start with a more conservative approach that is effective first?
"Patients with chronic low back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction at one month than patients treated by family physicians. Satisfaction scores were higher for chiropractic patients. A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56% vs. 13%) reported that their low-back pain was better or much better, whereas nearly one-third of medical patients reported their low-back pain was worse or much worse." -Nviendo et al (2000), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
